I am currently pregnant and want a job where I can stay at home with my new baby. I am looking for a legitimate work from home data entry type job. Or other work from home jobs. I know there are a lot of scams out there. So I don’t want one that requires a fee to start it since those are all scams. If anyone knows of any good companies that do work from home jobs. Please let me know.

It’s not only the ones that require a fee that are scams. Free sign-on sites can still potentially make their money off of you just by re-selling your info on a list later. This happens quite often and is legal, believe it or not. The thing is that you don’t know whom they are selling your info to and whether or not that business/industry is legitimate. It’s the perfect setup for future identity theft, actually. So look out.

Go on craigslist.org to look for projects. Also check elance.com, which is a project bidding site. However, there’s a test to sign on, you have to legitimately have your skill, you are up against others in bidding for a project (another reason you need real skills), and the pay IS NORMAL, AVERAGE PAY…that bears stressing: if you’re looking for more money than you’d pay outside the home, the internet is the wrong place to look, trust me. You’ll work and work hard and within a certain time limit, etc. Not trying to discourage you. I’m a work-from-home mom too.

Or is this just a bunch of hype? To get a person’s money up front?

There are many websites that say that you can work at home, but i’ve yet to find or hear of one that isn’t an outright scam or one that pays so little, that it doesn’t amount to minimum wage. There are many jobs where you can work from home, but you get them the same way you get any job, by answering a legitimate employment ad, filling out an application, and then interviewing for the job. The legitimate jobs don’t pay you in piece work manner, but pay you wages by the hour or by a salary. They do all the normal job things, like withhold taxes, Social Security, etc. Good luck.
